Radio Station Issues Apology After Wrongly Broadcasting King Charles III Has Died
A radio station in the United Kingdom issued an apology after mistakenly broadcasting news that King Charles III had died. The error caused confusion and concern among listeners before it was later corrected.
According to the station manager, the mistake happened because of a computer system error at their main studio. The station explained that UK radio networks keep a prepared emergency announcement in case a monarch passes away, so they can quickly report it when needed. However, this prepared system was accidentally triggered, leading to the false announcement being aired.
The incorrect report went on air on Tuesday, May 19, when a playing song suddenly stopped and was replaced by an announcement claiming that King Charles III had died. At that time, the King was actually in Northern Ireland with Queen Camilla for an official royal visit, making the report completely false.

The station did not clearly state how long the wrong announcement was broadcast before it was corrected. After realizing the mistake, they immediately issued an apology to both the King and their listeners, saying they regretted any worry or confusion the incident caused.
The Buckingham Palace has not released any official statement regarding the incident, and there are also no reports from UK media saying that the royal family has taken any action or filed any complaint against the radio station.

Meanwhile, King Charles III is the current King of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms. He became monarch on September 8, 2022, after the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-reigning British monarch. He is the eldest son of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. Before becoming king, he was known as the Prince of Wales for many years and was involved in public service, charity work, and environmental advocacy. As king, he serves as a constitutional monarch, meaning his role is mainly symbolic while the government runs the country.
