Jerald Napoles Reveals Why He Never Grew Up Feeling Handsome
JERALD NAPOLES – The actor and comedian shared a personal story about being called unattractive by his own grandmother when he was younger.
He said he was surprised after learning that he was recently introduced to the entertainment press with the nickname “The New Pogi.” Jerald admitted that he did not know who came up with the title, and hearing it reminded him of painful words from his childhood that stayed with him for a long time.
Jerald recalled that his grandmother once told him not to think he was handsome and even directly called him ugly. The comment hurt him deeply and made him cry when he was young. However, as he grew older, he realized that his grandmother was not trying to embarrass or insult him. He believes she simply wanted to prepare him for the difficult reality of life and teach him not to depend too much on looks or compliments from other people.

Because of that experience, Jerald said he learned to focus more on improving his skills, hard work, and determination instead of depending on physical appearance. He explained that he tried to become confident through his talent, intelligence, and dedication. He also shared that his grandmother was able to see him enter show business, although she only witnessed him playing supporting roles before he later became a lead actor. Even so, he knew she was very proud of him.
Jerald also talked about how people’s idea of being handsome has changed over the years. He explained that before, appearance was often the main reason people admired male celebrities and boy groups. Today, however, talent, passion, and unique abilities are becoming more important than looks alone. He mentioned SB19 as an example of artists who earned respect and popularity mainly because of their talent and hard work.

He also shared that he and his wife, Kim Molina, sometimes admire handsome celebrities together, including Gerald Anderson, whom they both consider naturally handsome and manly.
