Jonas Gaffud Did Not Throw a Phone at Anyone, Says Marv Ayao
MARV AYAO – The talent handler denied the viral rumors claiming that Jonas Gaffud threw a cellphone at him during the coronation night of Miss Universe Philippines 2026.
The issue began after a video circulated online showing Jonas appearing upset while dealing with technical problems during the live event at the SM Mall of Asia Arena. Many social media users misunderstood the clip and assumed that he had angrily thrown his phone at someone backstage.
To clear the controversy, Marv Ayao explained in a Facebook post that the situation was taken out of context. According to him, Jonas was already stressed because the production team was reportedly difficult to contact during the live show. There were also signal problems inside the venue, making communication more difficult while technical issues were happening onstage. Jonas allegedly wanted the production staff to quickly prepare backup video materials so the program could continue smoothly whenever unexpected problems occurred.
Marv said he was trying to lighten the mood and make Jonas laugh during the tense moment. He admitted that he moved away when Jonas appeared frustrated and looked like he might slam his phone onto the table. However, he clarified that Jonas never actually threw or slammed the phone and that nobody was hurt during the incident. He also shared that he has a close relationship with Jonas and often travels with him, making it unlikely that Jonas would intentionally hurt him.
Executives from the Miss Universe Philippines organization also defended Jonas against the allegations. Voltaire Tayag explained that Jonas did not hit anyone and that the situation later became something they laughed about backstage. He even joked that they were more concerned about the cellphone possibly getting damaged.
The coronation night eventually ended successfully, with Bea Millan-Windorski winning the Miss Universe Philippines 2026 title.
