Darryl Yap Calls Out Former Marcos Critics at Presidential Gala
DARRYL YAP – The director criticized comedienne Pokwang and veteran actress Pinky Amador for attending a party hosted by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., likely the “Evening with the Stars” Malacañang Gala on February 12.
Yap shared his reaction on Facebook on February 15, saying that seeing them at the event made him feel shy, despite thinking of himself as bold. “Dati akala ko, malakas na ang loob ko, akala ko makapal ang mukha ko—pero nung nakita ko ang pictures nila Pokwang at Pinky Amador sa paparty ni Bongbong Marcos, Isa pala akong Mahiyain. HAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHHAHAHA!” he wrote.
Yap reminded the public of past incidents where both actresses had criticized others for their political choices. He mentioned how Pokwang had mocked actress Ella Cruz for supporting the Marcos family, while Pinky had publicly condemned perceived wrongdoings during the campaign season. Yap pointed out the irony of their attendance at the presidential event, likening it to showing up at a “buffet of vinegar” compared to their previous judgments.

While acknowledging that people are free to change their political views or beliefs, Yap stressed that the hurtful words and judgment they had directed at others during the 2022 elections cannot be undone. He clarified that attending the gala itself is not wrong, but the past criticisms remain significant and reflect poorly on them.
Yap also expressed renewed respect for veteran actress Cherry Pie Picache, noting that she had maintained a consistent stance despite supporting the same political side as Pokwang and Pinky in 2022.

Both Pokwang and Pinky were vocal supporters of Vice President Leni Robredo and Senator Kiko Pangilinan during the 2022 elections. As of this writing, neither actress has responded publicly to Yap’s remarks.
