Statement of Malacañang on VP Sara Duterte Leading the Results of Survey on 2028 Presidential Race

SARA DUTERTE – Malacañang reacted to the results of a survey showing the Vice President as the 2028 presidential election frontrunner.

The current administration is only halfway to the end of its term but talks about the 2028 presidential race are already crossing the surface. Undeniably, the feud between Pres. Bongbong Marcos and Vice Pres. Duterte has triggered the speculations.

Amid the impeachment moves against her, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte believes that the Marcos administration allegedly wants her out of the government for her potential in the future presidential race. In one interview, Duterte called herself as the “frontrunner in the presidential race in 2028”. The Supreme Court has declared the impeachment complaint against her as “unconstitutional”.

After one of her visits to her father inside the International Criminal Court (ICC) detention center in The Hague, Netherlands, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte claimed that former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte is ready to campaign for her if she runs for president in 2028. According to her, the former Chief Executive told her that he will the number one to support and contribute if she will run for president in the next election.

Previously, amid the transfer of his custody to the ICC in The Hague following his arrest, former Pres. Duterte claimed that what happened to him can lead to the presidency of his daughter. Duterte’s former presidential counsel Atty. Salvador Panelo also believes that in case the former President dies during his ICC detention, it can result to the presidency of his daughter.

Recently, the results of the survey of research firm WR Numero showed that if the 2028 presidential elections will be held now, 31.4% of the Filipino people want Vice Pres. Sara Duterte to be the president. Malacañang was asked about the said survey result.

Palace press officer undersecretary Claire Castro claimed that the results of the survey only shows that Pres. Bongbong Marcos is focused on his work. Based on a report on The Manila Times, the Malacañang official stressed that the Chief Executive is not yet politicking.

“Ibig sabihin niyan po ay ang Pangulo po ay concentrated sa kaniyang pagtatrabaho para maibigay ang nararapat sa taumbayan. Hindi pa po namumulitika ang Pangulo. Hindi po namumulitika ang Pangulo,” Castro said.

Furthermore, based on the report, the Malacañang press official also stressed that the 2028 Elections is still far from now. She stressed that we must focus on the delivery of services by the Marcos admin which the President is focusing on.

“At siguro ang eleksyon, sa 2028 pa po iyan, saka na natin pag-usapan, pagtuunan po natin at pinagtutuunan ng Pangulo ang pagtatrabaho para sa taumbayan,” she expressed.

The office of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte refused to ask for Confidential and Intelligence Funds for 2026. Recently, Malacañang defended the office of Pres. Bongbong Marcos for asking the biggest share of the proposed Confidential and Intel Funds for 2026.
