Viral Video of a Sleeping Taho Vendor Inspires Many
TATAY EDDIE – A heartwarming video of a taho vendor sleeping inside a jeepney has gone viral on Facebook, amassing 3.3 million views.
The video was captured by a Facebook user named Prin Cess, who was moved by the sight of the elderly vendor resting during his commute. She shared the clip with a caption expressing admiration for his perseverance: “Just when you think you’re exhausted, you realize someone else is even more tired yet continues to fight. Salute to Tatay.”
The vendor was later identified as 61-year-old Eddie Sodsod from Pangao, Ibaan, Batangas. Living alone without a wife or children, he earns a modest income of around 300 pesos daily by selling taho. Unlike other vendors with their own vehicles, Sodsod commutes between Ibaan and Rosario, Batangas, starting his day at 1 a.m. to collect his taho. The long hours and demanding routine often leave him exhausted, which explains why he dozed off inside the jeepney.
Prin Cess uploaded the video on February 23 and used the post to encourage donations for Sodsod. To her surprise, many people responded generously, eager to extend their support. However, she also encountered online scammers attempting to take advantage of the situation. Thankfully, she was able to identify and avoid these fraudulent schemes.
On February 26, Prin Cess finally met Sodsod in person. She handed over the donations contributed by kindhearted individuals and also gifted him groceries. In a follow-up post, she shared more details about his daily struggles, emphasizing his deep gratitude for the support he received. Since he does not own a cellphone, he had to borrow one from his sibling just to stay in touch.
Sodsod expressed his heartfelt thanks to everyone who extended their help, regardless of the amount. His story has touched countless hearts, serving as a reminder of the resilience of hardworking Filipinos and the kindness of those willing to lend a helping hand.
