Duterte Accused of Spreading Fake News About Marcos Jr. and Martial Law
PAOLO ORTEGA V – The House Deputy Majority Leader and La Union Representative criticized former President Rodrigo Duterte for claiming that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. plans to declare martial law to stay in power and remove Vice President Sara Duterte from office.
“Yung pagdeklara ng martial law, fake news ulit. Hello, fake news, Mr. Fake News. Wag naman puro fake news na lang lumalabas sa bunganga nyo, palitan nyo naman,” Ortega said in a press conference on Monday, February 24.
Lanao del Sur Representative Zia Alonto Adiong downplayed former President Rodrigo Duterte’s remarks about the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte. He acknowledged that Duterte has the right to his own opinion but pointed out that, as the Vice President’s father, his views would naturally be influenced by their relationship.

Congressman Adiong emphasized that the impeachment is not about politics but about accountability. He noted that 215 members of the House of Representatives have filed complaints, believing that the Vice President should undergo due process. The case revolves around serious allegations, including the misuse of ₱612.5 million in confidential funds and threats against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

He clarified that the issue is not about party affiliations or political loyalties but about alleged violations related to the improper use of government funds. He urged the public to focus on these key concerns instead of getting distracted by misinformation or political narratives.
Adiong also stressed that electoral politics should not be mixed with constitutional accountability. Public officials must be held responsible for their actions, regardless of their political background or influence. As of press time, the former president has not yet issued any statement regarding the lawmakers’ remarks.
