Liam Payne Attempted to Flee Hotel Room Before Deadly Fall
LIAM PAYNE – The former One Direction member tragically fell to his death on October 16 while attempting to escape his hotel room in Buenos Aires.
CCTV footage revealed that the 31-year-old singer appeared heavily intoxicated when hotel staff escorted him back to his room. He seemed unwilling to stay, leading hotel employees to call 911 out of concern for his safety. In the call, they expressed fear for Payne’s well-being due to his access to a balcony, but staff left him alone in the room despite their concerns.
Reports suggest that Payne was trying to move from his third-floor balcony to a lower one and then jump to the ground, a method he had attempted before. TMZ reported that he had used this “balcony escape plan” in the past, including during a suspected drug binge in September. Following his death, police found a New York Yankees cap and a Louis Vuitton bag near his body, items not previously seen in earlier videos, suggesting he had returned to his room before the fall. A brown leather bag with pills and a Jack Daniel’s bottle labeled “For Liam” were also discovered.
The hotel room was in disarray, with broken furniture and objects scattered around. Authorities determined that Payne died from multiple injuries caused by the fall and that he likely did not try to protect himself during the incident, possibly due to being unconscious. Toxicology reports showed traces of alcohol, cocaine, and a prescription antidepressant in his system at the time of his death.
Payne’s body was returned to his father, Geoff Payne, in November. His funeral, held on November 20 at St. Mary’s Church in Amersham, Buckinghamshire, was attended by family, friends, and former bandmates, including Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, and Louis Tomlinson, as well as ex Cheryl Tweedy and girlfriend Kate Cassidy.
