Pregnant Woman Gets Emotional & Bursts Into Tears After Barangay Reduces Her DSWD Cash Aid
A pregnant woman cries after her financial aid from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) was reduced by her barangay.
The woman, who lives in Davao del Sur, had joyfully shared on her social media account that she received a P10,000 aid from the DSWD. She is a beneficiary of the DSWD’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program.
The victim even posted a photo showing the cash, expressing her gratitude. However, her happiness turned to anger and sorrow after an incident with her barangay. She was summoned by barangay officials, who took the aid money she had received.
Although the money was eventually returned to her, it was greatly less than the original amount. From the initial P10,000, only P1,500 was given back to her. The barangay had taken P8,500 from her aid.
“Sobrang sakit. Grabe pa ang pila roon. Wala silang awa. Buntis pa ako,” the woman lamented.
According to the DSWD, the barangay officials reduced her aid to distribute it to others in need within their jurisdiction. However, this action is illegal and should not be done by the barangay.
The DSWD stated that the barangay has promised to return the money taken from the woman. The DSWD is determined to assist the woman in filing a case against the barangay officials involved in this incident.
“Dahil nga nakikita natin na may grave abuse of authority ‘yung barangay official dahil kinuha yung halaga na natanggap mula sa DSWD. Tinitingnan din natin ‘yung graft and corruption, coercion kasi maari naman ‘yan mag-fall under robbery,” said DSWD spokesperson Asec. Irene Dumlao.
The internet users expressed their reactions to the incident:
