Rodrigo Duterte Reacts to Police Raid on Properties of Quiboloy
RODRIGO DUTERTE – The former president has strongly criticized how police conducted a raid on the properties of Apollo Quiboloy, the leader of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC). Duterte condemned what he referred to as “excessive and unnecessary force” employed by law enforcement during the execution of arrest warrants against Quiboloy, who faces abuse and trafficking charges in Davao City and Pasig City courts.
The police operation involved over 100 officers from various units, including the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and the Special Action Force. They raided Quiboloy’s properties, including the KOJC compound in Buhangin, Davao City, and the Prayer and Glory mountains in Barangay Tamayong.
Duterte emphasized that the incident took place within a place of worship and on school premises, describing it as “absolutely unacceptable.” He questioned whether such “overkill” tactics would become the hallmark of the current administration’s approach to dealing with individuals accused of crimes before being proven guilty.
Quiboloy, known to be a close friend and spiritual adviser of Duterte, has consistently denied the allegations against him and his religious group. Last March, Duterte was appointed as the administrator of KOJC properties by Quiboloy’s SMNI.
Meanwhile, the KOJC condemned the police raid, describing it as “excessive and overkill.” They reported injuries sustained by their members during the operation, stating that the police arrival was unannounced and caught them by surprise. The church claimed that police officers had visited the KOJC Central multiple times before the raid, and many members were already guarding the properties.
The police’s response, however, suggested that the church members might have been aware of the operation beforehand. Major Catherine Dela Rey, spokesperson for Police Regional Office 11, stated that many church members were already guarding the properties before the arrest warrants were implemented.
The KOJC also reported damage to their property and the unjust handcuffing of their members by the police during the raid. They pledged to pursue all legal remedies to protect the constitutional rights of Quiboloy, KOJC leaders, and the entire congregation.
