Toni Gonzaga will not be returning as the host of PBB
TONI GONZAGA – The actress-television host explicitly confirmed that she has no intentions of returning as the host of the reality show, Pinoy Big Brother (PBB).
In an interview on the FM radio station show, The Baklitas, on January 30, 2024, Toni was asked by the hosts, Kapitana Sisa and Tita Cory, if she had any plans to return as the host of PBB. According to Toni, she is not considering it anymore because her sixteen years of hosting the Kapamilya reality show are already enough. She expressed a desire to give others a chance to shine as the main host of the program.
She said, “Feeling ko, may mga bagong magagaling na hosts and it’s their time to shine. Feeling ko, the sixteen years that I’ve given sa PBB, parang ano na ‘yon, that was special and memorable in my heart.”
Toni also praised the remaining hosts and former colleagues in PBB, such as Bianca Gonzalez, Melai Cantiveros, Robi Domingo, Kim Chiu, and Enchong Dee. “Sobrang gagaling na ngayon ng mga host ng PBB and I’m sure they will continue the legacy ni Kuya,” she said.
When asked if she doesn’t miss being on TV?, she replied: “Nakaka-miss ‘yung dati kong ginagawa [sa TV]. May miss factor. But ngayon, intentional ka na every time you take a project, so mas excited ka nang mag-work. Dati kasi, para kang autopilot — guesting dito, guesting doon… lagarista to the max.”
Toni became controversial during the 2022 elections when she hosted major campaign sorties for then-presidential candidate Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and vice-presidential candidate Sarah Duterte. Her hosting role drew significant attention as some senatorial candidates on their ticket were associated with the closure of ABS-CBN, the home network of the TV host-actress. Due to this, she faced intense criticism from Kapamilya supporters, leading to her resignation as the main host of PBB on February 9, 2022.
