Caregiver Steals Life Savings of Former TV Host Battling Cancer
ROBERT ALEJANDRO – The former TV host, who is battling cancer, allegedly had almost P3 million of his life savings taken by his caregiver.
In an interview with Jonathan Andal on Balitanghali this Tuesday, Alejandro became emotional after revealing that his caregiver allegedly took almost P3 million of his life savings.
“Nagpapasalamat ako na buhay pa ako,” he said. “Nakikita naman niya ang kalagayan ko, ‘yung hirap na hirap kami mabuhay, tapos ito ang gagawin. Kailangan ko iyon para sa ospital. Buti kung healthy pa ako, puwede pa ako magtrabaho para mag-ipon pa,” Alejandro added. He is popularly known as “Kuya Robert” from the defunct GMA-7 show called “Art Is Kool.”
Alejandro discovered that his money was missing on December 17. According to his bank records, all transactions originated from his cellphone. However, Alejandro suspects that his caregiver was meddling with his cellphone while he was asleep.
After seeking help from the police, it was discovered that the caregiver was sending money to agents of online cockfighting. According to Police Captain Anthony Dacquel, chief investigator of Quezon City Police District 14, they identified the number, and the agents confirmed that the suspect was sending them money. They would then load the suspect’s online cockfighting account.
The caregiver was identified as Deo Angeles, who had been taking care of Alejandro for only two months. “Gusto kong sabihin sa kaniya, huwag na niyang gawin ‘to. Hindi lang siya kumukuha ng pera kundi pati ‘yung buhay ng dapat niyang alagaan. Napakasama,” said Alejandro.
GMA Integrated News went to the suspect’s house to get his side, but he did not face the media. As of press time, the former TV host has yet to give an update regarding his case.
