Veteran actor Ronaldo Valdez dies
RONALDO VALDEZ – The veteran actor passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2023, at the age of 76,
Ronaldo, whose real name was Ronald James Dulaca Gibbs, was a renowned Filipino film and television actor. He had a prolific career that spanned almost six decades, making him one of the most respected figures in the Philippine entertainment industry.
Valdez gained fame for his roles in both television and film, particularly for portraying paternal figures and antagonists. His career began in the mid-1960s when he was discovered by Dolphy. He rose to prominence during the 1970s and remained a prominent figure in Philippine cinema and television through the 1990s and 2000s.
Some of his notable works include TV dramas like “Mula sa Puso”, “Ang Munting Paraiso”, and “Sa Dulo ng Walang Hanggan”. He also made a mark in the romantic comedy film “Labs Kita… Okey Ka Lang?” and gained recognition from younger audiences for his roles in TV series like “Los Bastardos” and “2 Good 2 Be True”, as well as films such as “The Mistress”, “All You Need is Pag-ibig”, and “Seven Sundays”.
Apart from his acting career, Valdez was known for being the first KFC Filipino Colonel. He received accolades for his performances, including the Best Supporting Actor award at the Film Academy of the Philippines for “May Minamahal” in 1994 and the Metro Manila Film Festival Best Supporting Actor award for “Nasaan ang Puso?” in 1997.
Ronaldo Valdez was married to Maria Fe Gibbs, and they had two children, including the well-known actor and comedian Janno Gibbs.
