‘Natutulog Ba Ang Diyos’ cover of Pura Luka Vega resurfaces
PURA LUKA VEGA – The controversial drag queen has gained widespread attention anew following a video of him doing an impression of Gary Valenciano’s hit single “Natutulog Ba Ang Diyos”.
Vega faced heavy criticism after a video of him performing a remix version of “Ama Namin,” the Filipino edition of the Lord’s Prayer, while dressed as Jesus Christ. This act sparked strong disapproval from the public, including senators, who deemed it offensive, disrespectful, and blasphemous.
In response to the backlash, Vega defended himself, stating that dressing up as Jesus Christ was a form of “art therapy.” He even drew comparisons to some Catholics dressing as Jesus Christ during Holy Week for penitential purposes. Despite the criticism, Vega expressed determination to continue impersonating Jesus Christ as a way to pay tribute to the Catholic faith from a uniquely queer perspective.
Recently, a video of Vega doing an impression of Gary Valenciano’s song “Natutulog Ba Ang Diyos” went viral on Facebook. The video was posted by a certain Lara David and it garnered more than 4 million views of press time. One of the netizens commented: “this is blasphemy.” Another netizen wrote: “Ang dios ginawang katawatawa ….malaking kasalan Yan”
Meanwhile, the local government of General Santos City declared Pura Luka Vega “persona non grata,” indicating that he is no longer welcome in the city. The decision was based on the belief that Vega’s actions had clearly offended the Christian community. On the other hand,
