GCASH – A netizen claimed that someone might have lost his/her job as the financial application allegedly posted a job hiring after suffering from a system glitch.

GCash, the mobile wallet platform, faced significant issues on May 9, 2023, which led to a trending topic on Twitter. Users reported difficulties accessing the digital platform and expressed frustration online. Some users claimed that unauthorized bank transfers took place without receiving any notification or one-time password (OTP). This raised concerns about a possible hacking incident involving GCash and unauthorized transfers.

To address these concerns, GCash assured its users that their funds were secure and denied any hacking incident. The company stated that it had adjusted the e-wallets of affected users by May 9, 2023, at 4:30 p.m (Manila Time) and confirmed that no funds were lost. The platform experienced several hours of downtime but has since become operational again.

In light of the incident, GCash emphasized the importance of user vigilance during online transactions. Users were reminded never to share their OTP and mobile personal identification number (MPIN) to maintain the security of their accounts. Additionally, EastWest Bank (EWB) promptly addressed reports concerning unauthorized cash transfers from GCash to an alleged EWB account.
