DILG: “Asahan ninyo na hindi kami titigil hanggang hindi nareresolba ang kasong ito”
DILG – The Department of the Interior and Local Government released a statement about the “senseless” killing of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo.
Interior Secretary Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos Jr. said in a statement on Saturday that based on the reports from the ground, Governor Degamo was talking to some of his constituents who are beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) in front of his house when “a group of individuals clad in army and navy uniforms in full battle gear and were riding two SUVs shot the governor several times, victimizing other civilians as well”.
According to Abalos, Governor Degamo and other victims have already been brought to the nearest hospital for urgent medical attention.
In a statement, Abalos said that the DILG has condemned the “senseless” killing of Governor Degamo.
The Interior Secretary also said that he has given a directive to the Philippine National Police (PNP) to conduct hot pursuit operations in order to immediately catch the suspects responsible for the crime, adding that the forces of the Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office (NORPPO), as well as the police in neighboring provinces, have been deployed to search every corner of the area to immediately arrest the criminals.
“Asahan ninyo na hindi kami titigil hanggang hindi nareresolba ang kasong ito gayundin ang iba pang insidente ng pananambang na nangyari sa mga nakalipas na araw,” Abalos said. “We will quickly get to the bottom of this.”
