Senator Grace Poe: “We can reap the SIM registration law’s full potential with an effective implementation, and we must do it together as a nation”
SENATOR POE – Senator Grace Poe said that SIM (subscriber identity module) registration should be “as easy as texting or sending a message”.
The senator said that the registration of SIMs must be a secure, convenient, and easy experience for mobile phone users.
Senator Poe made this call to telecommunication companies and to the government one day ahead of the start of SIM registration as mandated by Republic Act No.11934.
The senator, who is the principal author and sponsor of the SIM Registration Act, also enjoined telecommunications companies, the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), key regulators, and other concerned agencies to ensure that all hands are on deck for the orderly and effective rollout of the said law.
She, who is also the chairperson of the Senate Committee on Public Services, said that the system should provide the means to register for people in need of assistance such as minors, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, pregnant, and those without internet connection.

According to her, a constant and massive information drive should also be undertaken in order to encourage subscribers to register their SIMs and to also assure them of the safety of their data as well.
“We can reap the SIM registration law’s full potential with an effective implementation, and we must do it together as a nation,” the senator said.
Signed into law by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. last October 2022, the Republic Act No. 11934 is one way to fight scams done through online messages and text messages.
