4 Stranded Construction Workers Sell “Merienda” Amid Lockdown Just To Feed Themselves
Four stranded construction workers have no choice but to sell ‘merienda’ just to survive several months of lockdown in Luzon.
A Facebook user named Susan Isorena-Arcega has shared the heartbreaking story of four stranded construction workers who were selling ‘merienda’ just to survive the lockdown period. The photo garnered praises from the netizens.
Arcega noticed that the four guys usually passed on their area during morning and afternoon selling food products such as turon and lumpiang togue. The stranded construction employees are selling their food products for P10 each.
Susan found out that the workers came from different provinces and got stranded in Guadalupe Viejo due to the enhanced community quarantine. The poor guys said that they failed to receive cash aid from the government because they are not entitled for SAP.
“Dumidiskarte lang, Nay, Kasi po hindi kami entitled sa anumang ayuda. Hindi po kami puedeng umasa sa wala,” one of the workers said.
The workers have been identified as Prak Joseph Serrano, Ariel Gakit, Justin Ganza, Vincent Demafiles. They usually earn P1,200 per day; P700 goes to ‘Puhunan’, P200 for fuel, and P300 for daily food budget of 300 among themselves.
Eventually, there are some kindhearted people who donated trays of eggs, noodles, and other food items for the TL boys. They have also been granted individual Micro Savings accounts at Cebuana Lhuillier.
