House Sanctions Bong Suntay for Inappropriate Comments About Anne Curtis
The House of Representatives has found Quezon City 4th District Representative Bong Suntay guilty of making inappropriate remarks about actress Anne Curtis and has ordered several disciplinary actions against him. These include issuing a public apology to Anne Curtis and all women, attending a gender sensitivity seminar, performing community service, and receiving an official reprimand from the House.
The decision followed an ethics investigation that determined Suntay had made improper and offensive statements during a House Committee on Justice hearing in March 2026, as well as related comments on social media. The ethics panel’s recommendation was approved by lawmakers, with 263 members voting in favor of the sanctions.
According to the committee, Suntay’s remarks were offensive, sexist, and discriminatory toward women. The panel stated that his comments fell short of the standards of respect and professionalism expected of members of Congress. It also concluded that his actions negatively affected the image, credibility, and reputation of the House of Representatives as an institution.

As part of the ruling, Suntay was directed to attend a gender sensitivity seminar organized by the House Committee on Women and Gender Equality. He was also required to complete community service and issue a public apology through television or other broadcast media.
The controversy began after Bong Suntay made comments about Anne Curtis during a congressional hearing related to the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte. His statements expressed personal attraction and imagined scenarios involving the actress while arguing that thoughts alone should not be subject to legal action. The remarks quickly drew criticism from the public, women’s organizations, and other groups, which viewed them as inappropriate and disrespectful.

Anne Curtis was among those who filed complaints against the congressman. As of now, she has not publicly commented on the House of Representatives’ decision or the penalties imposed on Suntay.
