Jay Sonza Arrested by NBI Over Cyberlibel Case

Court Order Leads to Arrest of Jay Sonza in Cyberlibel Case

JAY SONZA – The former broadcaster was arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Thursday evening in Quezon City in connection with a cyberlibel case.

According to the NBI, the arrest was carried out after the Pasay City Regional Trial Court issued a warrant earlier that day. The case is linked to the alleged spread of false information about the health of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., particularly the sharing of unverified and inaccurate medical records on online platforms. Following the arrest, Sonza was taken into NBI custody while the necessary legal procedures are being processed.

His lawyer, Atty. Mark Tolentino, confirmed the arrest and went to the NBI office to ensure that his client’s rights are properly protected, especially considering that Sonza is already a senior citizen. His legal team emphasized that they will closely monitor the situation and take action if any rights are violated. Earlier, in February, the NBI had already filed a complaint against Sonza and another vlogger over the same allegation of spreading false information to the public through digital platforms.

“Inaaresto ngayon si Jay Sonza ng National Bureau of Investigation batay sa isang warrant of arrest,” he said. “Papunta na kami sa NBI Pasay upang tiyakin na ganap na iginagalang ang kanyang mga karapatan, lalo na bilang isang senior citizen. Hindi namin palalagpasin ang anumang paglabag,” he added.

Meanwhile, Jay Sonza is a well-known media personality who built a long career as a broadcaster, talk show host, and commentator in both radio and television. He worked with major networks in the Philippines and became recognized for his involvement in news and public affairs programs. Aside from his media career, he also ventured into politics but was not successful in his bids for public office. In recent years, he has remained active on social media, where he frequently shares his views on current issues.
