Former broadcaster Jay Sonza has been detained

JAY SONZA – A spokesperson from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) has confirmed that the former broadcaster has been arrested due to estafa and syndicated and large-scale illegal recruitment.

Reporter Zyann Ambrosio shared on X (formerly Twitter) that BJMP Spokesperson Jayrex Bustinera mentioned that Sonza is being held at the Quezon City Jail quarantine facility in Payatas, Quezon City. Earlier, Glenn Ricarte, Assistant Director of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), said that they initially had Sonza in their custody before handing him over to the BJMP.

As reported separately by ABS-CBN News, it has been two weeks since the controversial host was arrested by the Bureau of Immigration (BI). Ricarte explained that Sonza was on his way to Hong Kong, however, immigration officials stopped him from leaving the country because there is a pending case against him for estafa. The BI also detained Sonza after discovering that there is an active arrest warrant for him due to his involvement in syndicated and large-scale illegal recruitment.
