Suzette Doctolero, GMA Headwriter, Criticizes Sen. Jinggoy Estrada and VP Sara Duterte

SUZETTE DOCTOLERO – The GMA headwriter and creative consultant expressed deep frustration with Senate and Congressional hearings.

On August 27, 2024, she criticized the Senate hearings led by Senators Jinggoy Estrada and Robin Padilla regarding a case involving Sandro Muhlach, Jojo Nones, and Richard Cruz. Doctolero was upset that despite the case being with the DOJ, Senator Jinggoy continued to question and pressure Nones, who repeatedly invoked his right against self-incrimination. She highlighted that Nones was detained for eight days for not giving the answers Jinggoy wanted, which she felt was an abuse of the senator’s role.

Doctolero also condemned the Congressional hearing on Vice President Sara Duterte’s office budget, accusing Duterte of avoiding questions about confidential fund expenditures. She asserted that taxpayers have the right to know how their money is spent and criticized the lack of accountability, especially given the serious allegations against a powerful figure in Davao.

She voiced concern that while high-profile cases receive undue scrutiny, wealthy and influential individuals often escape justice. She lamented that despite multiple revolutions and changes in leadership, the systemic issues in the Philippines persist, favoring the powerful while oppressing the ordinary citizens.

In her post, Doctolero called for a reevaluation of how lawmakers are chosen, suggesting that they should undergo aptitude tests similar to other jobs. She urged for a halt to the election of ineffective leaders and clowns to important positions. Her comments reflect her broader frustration with the perceived ineffectiveness and corruption in the current political system.

Meanwhile, Suzette Doctolero is a prominent screenwriter and creative consultant, known for her extensive work in television and film. Her notable works include the creation of “Encantadia” in 2005, a groundbreaking fantasy series that was later rebooted in 2016. She also wrote for other significant GMA shows such as “Amaya,” “Indio,” and “My Husband’s Lover.” Her film contributions include the screenplays for “Let the Love Begin” and “Bahay Kubo: A Pinoy Mano Po!”
