“Social Media Addicts” Visiting the Grave of Rico Yan for Content Earn Dismay of Jessy Mendiola

JESSY MENDIOLA – The actress and wife of Luis Manzano expressed her dismay at the content trend of visiting the grave of Rico Yan.

Rico Yan, born Ricardo Carlos Castro Yan on March 14, 1975, gained fame in the late 1990s and early 2000s as a beloved actor and commercial model. Discovered while studying at De La Salle University, his career took off when he joined Star Circle Batch 1 (now Star Magic) in 1995.

Yan starred in numerous TV shows and films, including “Gimik,” “Mula Sa Puso,” “Got 2 Believe,” and “Dahil Mahal na Mahal Kita,” known for his charm, versatility, and chemistry with leading actresses like Judy Ann Santos and Claudine Barretto. His sudden death on March 29, 2002, at 27, due to cardiac arrest from acute hemorrhagic pancreatitis, shocked the nation and led to widespread grief and tributes.

The gravesite of the late Filipino matinee idol Rico Yan has become a popular spot for TikTok content creation, with influencers visiting, hugging his tombstone, and interacting with his portrait. This trend has sparked mixed reactions online.

While some Gen Z influencers express admiration for Rico Yan’s charisma and looks, many netizens find their actions disrespectful and inappropriate, criticizing them for seeking clout through such behavior. Comments on social media highlight discomfort with the perceived invasion of privacy and insensitivity toward the deceased actor.

Earlier, Jessy Mendiola, the wife of Luis Manzano, took to her Instagram Stories to express her dismay at social media addicts visiting the gravesite of the late matinee idol Rico Yan for content.

“Wala na ba magawang matino ang mga social media addicts? Konting respeto naman sa namayapa na at pati na rin sa pamilya ng yumaong. Susme. Lahat na lang ba para sa likes, followers, and views? Nakalimutan na yata ng mga tao ang salitang respeto. Wala nang decency,” she noted.
