Bong Go Gives Reaction to Resignation of Sara Duterte as DepEd Secretary

BONG GO – The senator commented on Vice President Sara Duterte’s resignation as Secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd), stating it occurred at a crucial time when prioritizing the welfare of Filipinos is paramount. VP Sara resigned on Wednesday, June 19, expressing her genuine concern for Filipino teachers and students as the reason for her decision.

In his statement on Wednesday evening, Go expressed gratitude to VP Sara for her service as DepEd secretary. He acknowledged her continued role as Vice President and her unwavering dedication to the Filipino people, saying, “Maraming salamat po, Ma’am VP Inday Sara, sa inyong pagseserbisyo bilang Secretary of Education, sa patuloy mong pagsisilbi bilang Pangalawang Pangulo ng bansa, at sa walang tigil na pagmamalasakit sa bawat Pilipino.” He emphasized the importance of timing, suggesting that this moment calls for an even greater focus on the welfare of the populace.

Go shared his long-standing acquaintance with VP Sara, affirming his support for her in future challenges. “Mula noon, hanggang ngayon, at hanggang sa mga darating pang mga pagsubok, kaisa ako ni Vice President Inday Sara Duterte lalo na sa hangaring ihatid ang aniya’y “tunay na malasakit para sa ating mga guro at kabataang Pilipino,” he said. He praised her for her competence, resilience, dedication, and principled service to the nation.

As a fellow Davaoeño, Go has a close association with the Duterte family, having served as the Special Assistant to the President during the administration of VP Sara’s father, former President Rodrigo Duterte. His alliance with the Duterte family is well-known, and he continues to support their initiatives.

However, recent tensions have emerged within the Duterte circle. Davao City Mayor Baste Duterte, VP Sara’s brother, criticized Go, his long-time friend. Mayor Baste expressed disappointment, stating that had he known Go would not advocate for the people of Davao, he would not have supported him in the previous election. This critique highlights a rift in their relationship, despite Go’s steadfast support for VP Sara and the Duterte family’s political endeavors.
