Vice Ganda Speaks on Controversial Incident Involving Awra Briguela in June 2023
VICE GANDA – The Kapamilya Star revealed that the father of Awra Briguela has requested him not to take him out from jail right away when he was detained over a club brawl.
In June 29, 2023, Awra Briguela sparked headlines after he was arrested for several charges following a club brawl in Poblacion, Quezon City with non-showbiz individuals. Several charges were cited and many people were surprised by the incident that involved the popular child actor.
Awra is one of the most popular child actors of her generation. One of the prominent roles he has played was his role as Mac-Mac or Macario Samonte Jr. in the hit ABS-CBN television series FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano. He’s also part of several big projects including the movie Familia Blondina where he was one of the main cast.
A lot of his fellow celebrities were saddened by what happened to Awra. He also earned a lot of negative criticisms over the incident. Recently, It’s Showtime host Vice Ganda who is one of the celebrities who are close to Awra Briguela revealed that the young actor’s father made a request to him but it is contrary to what many people may expect.
In a vlog posted on YouTube, Vice Ganda revealed that the father of Awra Briguela reached out to him not to ask him a favor for the release of his son but to not take him out from the jail right away. The comedian stressed that it was a “tough love” that Awra’s father had but he wanted him to learn.
“‘Meme, ang pakiusap ko huwag mo muna siyang ilabas. Alam kong tutulungan mo siya, pero wag mo muna siyang ilabas. Kasi gusto ko maranasan niya yung hirap doon,’” Vice said referring to the request of Awra’s father.
Vice Ganda stressed that Oneal Briguela, the father of Awra, wanted his son to learn to deal and face the situation and not to run away from it. He further added that his father just wants him to realize things and learn from them.
Awra admitted that he and his father are still not totally okay now. Meanwhile, he believes that they are “getting better”. He admitted that it may take a lot of time before they will really be okay. According to him, there were times when he did not have the courage to open up to him and his father also did give him the hint that he can do so.
The young actor admitted that during that time of his life, he had a lot of problems including family problems but he chose to run away from them by partying almost every day. Recently, Awra wrote an open letter where he apologized to his family and promised to strive to be better.
