The classic Tinolang Manok is a favorite of many Filipinos most especially during the rainy season or on a cold weather. The first part of the Tinolang Manok recipe is the list of ingredients that you need to prepare. To yield up to five (5) servings, here are the ingredients that you should prepare:

  • 2 lbs. chicken cut into serving pieces
  • 1 cup hot pepper leaves
  • 1 cup malunggay leaves
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 piece Knorr chicken cube
  • 1 piece unripe papaya wedged
  • 4 cloves garlic crushed and chopped
  • 3 thumbs ginger julienne
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons fish sauce patis
  • 6 cups water

The next part of the Tinolang Manok recipe is the cooking process. It may take around an hour to cook this all-time favorite Pinoy dish. Here are the steps that you may follow to cook a delicious viand for you and your loved ones:

Heat oil in a cooking pot and sauté garlic, onion, and ginger. Add the ground black pepper.

Check the onions and once they have softened, add the chicken into the pot. Cook for five (5) minutes or until the color of the chicken turns light brown.

Add water and let it boil. Cover the cooking pot and continue boiling the food for 40 minutes more under low heat.

Remove the scums and oil on the soup of your Chicken Tinola. Add the Knorr chicken cube and the papaya. You may also add chayote or sayote instead of papaya. Cover the pot and continue cooking the soup for five (5) more minutes.

Add the malunggay and the hot pepper leaves and the fish sauce. Continue cooking for two (2) more minutes. Afterwards, your Chicken Tinola is cooked and you can transfer it into a serving bowl. Serve it with steamed rice and enjoy your meal!
