Rommel Francisco Marbil Assumes Role as New Philippine National Police Chief

ROMMEL FRANCISCO MARBIL – President Bongbong Marcos Jr. has appointed Rommel Francisco Marbil as the new chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP).

The Philippine National Police’s newest leader is Maj. Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil, formerly the comptroller of the police force. Marbil officially took over as the 30th PNP commander, succeeding Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr., as announced by Malacañang.

Both Marbil and Acorda are graduates of the Philippine Military Academy, with Marbil receiving President Marcos’s directive during Acorda’s retirement ceremony at Camp Crame to ensure that PNP personnel act as “agents of transformation” and lead a police force that is supportive of various societal elements.

Based on a report from Philstar, Bongbong Marcos expressed his full confidence and support for Maj. Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil, vows to collaborate closely to address emerging threats such as cybercrime, terrorism, and transnational crimes while maintaining professionalism and delivering the best service to citizens.

Marbil, who previously served as director of the Highway Patrol Group and chief of Police Regional Office 8, holds a master’s degree in public administration from Ateneo de Manila University.

According to the report, Marcos’s administration also appointed police Lieutenant General Emmanuel Baloloy Peralta as the officer in charge of the PNP chief’s office, as per a statement released by Malacañang before the change of command ceremony. The memorandum, issued on March 27, was addressed to Interior and Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos, emphasizing the department’s oversight of the PNP.

In conclusion, Marcos expressed gratitude to the police force and their families for their sacrifices and urged them to approach the future with enthusiasm, resolve, and hope to achieve the nation’s goals and aspirations, while remaining vigilant in the face of challenges and opportunities.
