Teacher says today’s students are not taking responsibility seriously
TODAY VS PAST – A teacher’s post on social media gained widespread attention for criticizing today’s students, describing them as not taking responsibility seriously.
In a Facebook post, teacher Berlin Celoza compared his generation to current students, saying they don’t understand the importance of being responsible. He pointed out that current students are shielded from criticism by teachers and aren’t held accountable for their academic performance.
Celoza expressed sadness over the decline of respect for teachers, contrasting it with his time when students admired educators. He stressed that respect and appreciation should remain constant. Additionally, he cautioned that teachers also have their limits.
Celoza’s message comes amid controversy over another teacher’s viral video scolding her students during a livestream. The teacher, unnamed to protect her identity, was given a show-cause order and 72 hours to explain her actions. The Department of Education (DepEd) aims to clarify guidelines regarding teachers’ social media use.
The incident occurred in Metro Manila, and a conference was held between the teacher, students, and school officials. DepEd will investigate if the scolding happened during class and assess the circumstances surrounding the viral video.
