Lenka has taken action against “Selos” by Shaira, the Queen of Bangsamoro pop
LENKA – The Australian singer has taken a legal action against the Queen of Bangsamoro pop, Shaira, regarding her hit single “Selos.”
Shaira, recognized as the Queen of Bangsamoro pop, has gained extensive attention across various streaming platforms with her song “Selos.” The catchy tune has amassed 8.7 million views on YouTube, 1.4 million streams on Spotify, and significant engagement on TikTok. Despite comparisons to Lenka’s “Trouble Is A Friend,” the song’s YouTube disclaimer clarifies it as a parody.
Apparently, Shaira’s “Selos” was removed from all music streaming platforms due to a copyright issue. This action followed a netizen’s report that someone (Shaira) was claiming the song and profiting from it. “Hi Someone else is claiming your song and earning from it – it was “Selos” shaira,” the netizen wrote. To this, Shaira replied: “yes we have taken action tha ks.”
It seems that the netizen deleted their comment on Lenka’s post. The Instagram post of the Australian singer was inundated with mixed reactions from netizens, particularly Filipinos. Some defended Shaira, arguing that she only made Lenka’s song more popular.
However, the majority agreed with Lenka’s actions. Numerous social media users cited song copyright law, which grants creators exclusive rights over their songs, including reproduction, distribution, performance, and creation of derivative works.
