JACLYN JOSE – Multiple media outlets have reported the passing of award-winning actress Jaclyn Jose on March 3.

The local entertainment community is in mourning following the unexpected news of the death of acclaimed actress Jaclyn Jose. She passed away at her residence in Quezon City last Saturday, March 2, 2024, at the age of 59.

The sad announcement was verified by PPL Entertainment, Inc., the talent management firm representing the seasoned actress. The cause of her death was not disclosed in the official statement.

Jaclyn Jose’s grieving family members are appealing for prayers for her soul and requesting respect and privacy as they cope with her loss. In a Facebook post on Monday night, March 4, they shared the following message:

“It saddens us to inform everyone of the untimely passing of Miss Jaclyn Jose (real name Mary Jane Guck).

“More details will be shared as soon as they are available.

“The Guck and Eigenmann families are requesting for everyone to please pray for the eternal repose of Miss Jaclyn Jose and for them to be allowed the respect and privacy to mourn her passing, and navigate these difficult times.”

Survived by her two children, daughter Andi Eigenmann and son Gwen Garimond, Jose—whose birth name was Mary Jane Guck—was a seasoned actress. Her most recent role was as Jail Chief Supt./BGEN Dolores Espinas in the TV series “Batang Quiapo.” Notably, she achieved historic recognition as the first Filipino actor to secure the Best Actress award at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival for her performance in Brillante Mendoza’s “Ma’ Rosa,” portraying a mother running a small store involved in drug dealing to make ends meet.

Her final appearance was in the 2023 Metro Manila Film Festival entry “Broken Heart’s Trip.” Alongside the prestigious Cannes award, Jose received numerous local honors, including five Gawad Urian awards, two Luna Awards, a FAMAS Award, and an MMFF award. Her illustrious career featured collaborations with esteemed directors such as Lino Brocka and Chito Roño.
