Barbie Forteza drew attention recently when she posted a video in response to fellow celebrity Rain Matienzo’s thoughtful gift from Taylor Swift’s Melbourne show—an Eras Tour shirt and friendship bracelets.
“OA,” “Walang pambili ng ticket?” were among the criticisms hurled at the actress after sharing the emotional video. In it, Barbie expresses her gratitude to Rain Matienzo. Taylor’s ongoing “The Eras Tour” has generated immense fan interest, with official merchandise being highly coveted at the concert venues.
Despite being a devoted “Swiftie” who frequently incorporates Taylor’s song lyrics into her social media posts, Barbie chose not to attend her idol’s concert, leading to an emotional response upon receiving Rain’s gift.
Netizens criticized Barbie, labeling her as “overacting” and “maarte,” while questioning if the Kapuso Primetime Princess couldn’t afford a ticket. Some advised her that indulging in personal enjoyment, especially after hard work, is perfectly acceptable.
In an interview with GMA News, Barbie explained her decision to skip Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour. “Kasi, para sa akin, ito po ay sa akin lamang, I just feel like it is a splurge for me. Sabi ko sa sarili ko, if magpe-perform siya dito sa Pilipinas, I will definitely watch it,” Barbie explained.
Beyond the ticket cost, there are additional expenses like airfare, accommodation, food, and local transportation, particularly as the concert takes place in another country. The exclusion of the Philippines from the countries on Taylor Swift’s “The Eras Tour” disappointed many Filipino fans.
Barbie justified her decision, stating, “But to have to spend for a flight, accommodation, and siyempre to maximize your time to wherever she’s performing, parang it’s too much of a splurge, especially I’m coming from just finishing a house.”
Having recently moved into a newly constructed three-story house with her family, Barbie expressed that if it were just for the concert, she would prefer to allocate the funds elsewhere, anticipating Taylor’s future performances.
Barbie conveyed deep appreciation for Rain’s efforts, emphasizing her gratitude for waiting in line for merchandise and the sentiment behind the friendship bracelet, which made her feel connected to the event.
Although Barbie missed Taylor’s concert in Australia, she has plans to travel to Canada for a show alongside her love team partner, David Licauco, and other Kapuso stars.
