Here’s the official statement from Captain’s Peak Resort in Chocolate Hills
CHOCOLATE HILLS RESORT – Captain’s Peak Garden and Resort announced that they will temporarily close for maintenance and environmental preservation efforts.
The ‘Chocolate Hills’ garnered attention on social media platform X due to a newly constructed resort nearby. Many people worry that this resort could spoil the beautiful view of this famous tourist spot in the Philippines. The resort, easily visible from above, received criticism from internet users who questioned its legality and potential impact on the protected landscape.
This prompted online users to raise the issue with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the local government of Bohol. They wanted to find out if the resort had the necessary permissions to operate in the area.
DENR issued a Temporary Closure Order against the resort on September 6, 2023, and a Notice of Violation on January 22, 2024, due to operating without an ECC. As of March 13, 2024, Regional Executive Director Paquito D. Melicor instructed the Bohol Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) to inspect Captain’s Peak Resort for compliance with the Temporary Closure Order, while the DENR-Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) will continue monitoring the situation.
Meanwhile, Captain’s Peak Garden and Resort announced that they will be temporarily closed for maintenance and environmental preservation efforts.
During this closure, they will implement various eco-friendly initiatives to further enhance the sustainability of their resort. They are committed to upholding the highest standards of environmental stewardship and ensuring the preservation of the natural beauty that surrounds them.
The resort management apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciates their guests’ understanding and support as they work towards a greener, more sustainable future.
