After discovering the guy lied about his age, a lady walks out on her date
AGE IS JUST A NUMBER? – A lady walked out on a date after discovering that the guy had lied about his age.
The Reddit post by a user known as “Defiant-Box9928” went viral on February 17, 2024. She shared her story on the “Am I wrong?” page, where people discuss personal dilemmas seeking advice.
According to her, she met a man online who claimed to be four years older than her, which didn’t concern her since she was 24. They had similar interests and decided to meet at a bar. However, when she saw him in person, he looked older than his pictures. When she confronted him, he admitted that his photos were outdated, revealing he was actually 42, but he justified it with “age is just a number.”
Feeling uncomfortable, she made an excuse about leaving her phone in the car and left the bar. Shortly after, he messaged her asking where she was. She replied truthfully, expressing her disinterest in older men or being deceived.
He accused her of being shallow and admitted to lying about his age because of it. She found it amusing and shared the story with a friend, but her friend disagreed, criticizing her for leaving abruptly without explanation.
Despite her friend’s opinion, she stood by her decision, stating her preference against dating significantly older individuals. She sought validation from others, asking if she was wrong for leaving.
The top comment on her post, with 2,700 upvotes, supported her decision and highlighted the inconsistency of lying about age. Other comments emphasized the importance of prioritizing safety and intuition in potentially risky situations. She clarified that she wouldn’t have met him if she knew his true age from the beginning.
