Lolit Solis Defends President Bongbong Marcos for Using Government Chopper to Watch Coldplay Concert

Lolit Solis on President Bongbong Marcos: “We have to allow him to enjoy what his position is”

LOLIT SOLIS – The entertainment columnist defended President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. for utilizing a government-owned helicopter to avoid traffic and attend the Coldplay concert. The entertainment columnist shared her thoughts on Instagram, emphasizing the need to allow the president to enjoy the privileges of his position.

The British rock band Coldplay held a concert at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan on January 19 as part of their “Music of the Spheres” world tour. Among the attendees were President Marcos and his first lady, Liza Araneta-Marcos, who used a presidential chopper to travel to the venue. However, this sparked criticism and concerns about the use of taxpayer money for personal leisure, prompting online discussions about the president’s priorities in light of transportation challenges and an impending mass transport crisis.

In defense of Marcos, Lolit Solis remarked, “Natatawa ako sa reaction ng tao sa mga gumamit ng helicopter para manuod, especially ang First Couple. Sa buhay at sa anuman bagay alam natin na may ranking. You get the amenities that you deserve according to your rank in life. Kaya nga lahat tayo nagsisikap na marating ang itaas para mas maraming bagay ang ma-enjoy natin dahil mataas ang ranking natin sa buhay.”

Lolit emphasized that leaders, like the president, should be allowed to enjoy the privileges that come with their positions. She questioned the desire to make the president an ordinary person, asserting that leadership roles warrant different comforts and actions for certain matters. Lolit called for an end to baseless complaints and advised against putting excessive pressure on leaders for the smoother and more efficient governance of the country.

During the concert, President Marcos received a reality check about the traffic situation in the Philippines from Coldplay vocalist Chris Martin. Reacting to the massive traffic, Martin expressed gratitude to the audience for enduring congestion, acknowledging the country’s notorious traffic problem.
