Supreme Court on schedule for the 2024 Shari’ah Bar exam

SUPREME COURT – The Supreme Court of the Philippines has announced the schedule for the 2024 Shari’ah Bar exam.

In Shari’ah Bar Bulletin No. 1, the Office of the 2024 Shari’ah Bar Chairperson said that the 2024 Shari’ah Bar exam will be conducted on February 25 & 28, 2024, with Associate Justice Maria Filomena Singh as the chairperson.

The 2024 Shari’ah Bar exam will be conducted in a digitalized and regionalized format.

According to SC, announcements regarding the 2024 Shari’ah Bar exam procedure, i.e., application requirements, health protocols, software technical specifications, local testing center, and venue selection, will be issued in subsequent Bar Bulletins.

In addition, the Office of the 2024 Shari’ah Bar Chairperson enjoins all applicants and concerned stakeholders to rely exclusively on Supreme Court’s official communication channels for verified, accurate, and updated information regarding the 2024 Shari’ah Bar exam.

The Shari’ah Bar exam is administered to allow Muslim professionals to qualify and practice before the Shari’ah Courts in the country constituted under Presidential Decree (PD) 1083 or the Code of Muslim Personal Laws of the Philippines. Shari’ah courts have jurisdiction over cases involving violations of PD 1083.

Prior to this, the Supreme Court has announced the schedule for the 2024 Bar examination.

In Bar Bulletin No. 1, the Office of the Bar Chairperson said that the 2024 Bar exam will be conducted on September 8, 11, and 15, 2024, with Associate Justice Mario Lopez as chairperson.

2024 Shari’ah Bar Exam Coverage

According to SC, the 2024 Shari’ah Bar exam will cover Jurisprudence (Figh) and Customary Laws (Adat); Persons, Family Relations, and Property; Succession, Wills/Adjudication, and Settlement of Estates; and Procedure in the Shari’ah Courts.

Two subjects will be tackled for every examination day and will be distributed in the morning period from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon and the afternoon period from 2:00 to 6:00 pm.
