President Bongbong Marcos Declares December 26, 2023 A Special Non-Working Day

PRESIDENT BONGBONG MARCOS – The President has issued Proclamation No. 425 declaring December 26, 2023 a special non-working day.

In Proclamation No. 425, the President said that the declaration will give Filipinos the “full opportunity to celebrate Christmas with their loved ones” as Christmas would fall on a Monday. He also ordered the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) to issue the appropriate circular in order to implement the proclamation for the private sector.

A longer weekend will encourage families to get together and strengthen their relationship leading to a better society,” President Bongbong Marcos said. “A longer weekend will also promote domestic tourism.

HOLIDAY 2023 PHILIPPINES – Here are the regular holidays and special non-working days in the country this year.

Are you one of those people who really exert effort to make the most of the holidays? The long list of holiday events in the Philippines this year 2023 has paved the way for a lot of long weekends as many regular holidays and special non-working days fall on a Monday.

Yearly, there are several days that are marked red on the calendar as they are regular holidays. During these days, classes are suspended in schools and work is also cancelled in most companies. Most of the establishments and companies that continue their operation during these days are those working on the “essentials”. Here is a regular holiday list in the Philippines this 2023:

  • New Year’s Day – January 1 (Saturday)
  • Araw ng Kagitingan – April 10 (Monday nearest April 9)
  • Maundy Thursday – April 6
  • Good Friday – April 7
  • Labor Day – May 1 (Monday)
  • Independence Day – June 12 (Monday)
  • National Heroes Day – August 28 (last Monday of August)
  • Bonifacio Day – November 27 (Monday nearest November 30)
  • Christmas Day – December 25 (Monday)
  • Rizal Day – December 30 (Saturday)

There are also what we call the “special non-working days”. During these days, work is suspended and those who need to report to duty will enjoy an additional pay that is equal to 30% of their basic daily salary.
