Kokoi Baldo has died in a motorcycle accident
KOKOI BALDO – The reggae singer and The Voice of the Philippines Season 2 finalist died after being involved in a motorcycle accident.
Baldo, whose real name is Juan Manuel Ubaldo, passed away at the age of 44 after being run over by a truck at around 1:30 in the morning on December 8 on the Circumferential Road in Barangay Mandalagan, Bacolod City.
Based on the initial police investigation, according to the testimony of Dan Dela Cruz, the driver of the pickup vehicle, they were traveling northward, and he was following a 10-wheeler truck loaded with sugarcane driven by Benny Flor from Barangay Sampinit, Bago City. Allegedly, Baldo overtook the pickup, and upon reaching a curve, he also overtook the truck. Unfortunately, he was run over by the rear tire of the truck, resulting in his death.
Flor, the truck driver, was on his way to Victorias City to deliver the load of sugarcane. He was driving slowly since the area was accident-prone. However, he claimed that he did not see Kokoi Baldo. The driver of the pickup also mentioned that he did not notice that someone was run over by the truck.
Flor is currently in custody at Police Station 3’s custodial facility, while Ubaldo’s body is at ABE Funeral Homes. His family members took to social media to remove photos of the accident.
Meanwhile, Kokoi Baldo was a reggae singer from Bacolod City. He rose to fame when he joined the second season of the singing competition, The Voice of the Philippines. He captured the attention of coaches Lea Salonga, Sarah Geronimo, Bamboo Mañalac, and Apl.de.Ap, with a 4-chair-turn rendition of “One Day.”
During his time on The Voice, he decided not to continue his journey. At that time, Jason Dy was declared the winner.
