A woman applied superglue to her eye
CALIFORNIA – A woman named Jennifer Eversole from Santa Rosa ended up in the emergency room after mistaking a bottle of superglue for eye drops in June 2023. She shared her ordeal on her TikTok account, admitting her mistake and feeling embarrassed about it.
Jennifer explained in a video clip, “Well, I’ve gone and done it. I just feel so stupid. I have won the most idiot person award.” She described how the eye drops and superglue bottles were placed side by side and were of the same size, leading to her confusion.
In her attempt to use what she thought were eye drops, she accidentally glued her eyes shut. The superglue caused a burning sensation in her eyes, and she quickly closed them. While she wasn’t sure if keeping her eyes shut immediately was the right move, it prevented the superglue from reaching her eyeballs.
Realizing the seriousness of the situation, she rushed to the emergency room, where they performed first aid to unstick her eyelids and prevent any further damage. Jennifer temporarily experienced blurred vision and had to keep her eyes covered until they fully healed. Ironically, Jennifer had considered moving the superglue bottle before the incident to avoid mistaking it for her eye drops, but she didn’t follow through, and this mishap occurred.
Jennifer provided an update on June 7, stating that her vision was gradually improving, and she was told by an ophthalmologist that her eyes were healing. Within a few days, her vision was expected to return to 20/20.
The incident serves as a cautionary tale, emphasizing the dangers of getting adhesive substances like nail glue, superglue, or eyelash glue near the eyes, as they can cause irritation and damage to one’s vision. If this happens accidentally or intentionally, seeking immediate medical attention is crucial to ensure the eyes are not harmed.
