PSA Tells Public Not To Post Image and Details Of National ID On Social Media

PSA: “Sharing your personal information could compromise your privacy and may expose you to various risks”

PSA – The Philippine Statistics Authority told the public on Tuesday that they shouldn’t post the image and details of their national ID on social media.

According to PSA Undersecretary Claire Dennis S. Mapa, sharing one’s personal information on social media could compromise one’s privacy and may expose to various risks such as fraud and identity theft.

Mapa also told the public to be vigilant when they were approached by individuals claiming to be authorized by the Philippine Statistics Authority, asking for their PhilID, ePhilID, or their personal information.

According to the Philippine Statistics Authority, they should first verify the credentials of those individuals and also ensure that they have the proper authorization to use the data.

The Philippine Statistics Authority then encouraged the public to report any unauthorized activity or suspicious requests related to PhilID or ePhilID to the agency through its email address fmd.staff@psa.gov.ph.

The PhilSys journey is one of dedication and determination. Reaching 81 million registrants is a reflection of our commitment to inclusivity and accessibility for all Filipinos,” Mapa said.

The agency reported that more than 81,005,872 Filipinos have successfully completed the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) registration as of October 3, 2023. Also, the agency revealed that more than 38 million PhilIDs have been delivered and over 41.6 million printed and downloaded ePhilIDs were issued as of August 25, 2023.

National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Secretary Arsenio M. Balisacan, meanwhile, said that the administration looks forward to delivering all digital IDs by the end of 2023 as the production of physical PhilIDs is already halfway.
