Maiqui Pineda Reveals She Has Lung Disease Due To Autoimmune Illness

Maiqui Pineda: “Because of my autoimmune disease, I developed some form of interstitial lung disease (ILD).”

MAIQUI PINEDA – The fiancée of TV host Robi Domingo recently revealed that she has a lung disease due to her autoimmune illness.

Sharing an update about her health on her blog post, Maiqui said she was diagnosed with some form of interstitial lung disease (ILD) due to her autoimmune illness. According to her, it causes inflammation and scarring around the lungs, leading to shortness of breath, dry cough, chest pains, fatigue, and weight loss.

An ILD, according to American Lung Association, is an umbrella term that is used for a large group of diseases that cause scarring of the lungs. According to Mayo Clinic, the scarring associated with ILD eventually affects one’s ability to breathe and get enough oxygen into the bloodstream.

In her blog post, she shared that she underwent Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program – one of the main treatments for ILD, according to her – and the program would help improve her lung function.

I did my rehab at the Institute of Pulmonary Medicine at St. Luke’s Medical Center – Global City, Taguig. The standard program consists of 16 one-hour-long sessions usually done three times a week but I decided to continue it up to next year to be safe,” she said.

Maiqui posted a video on her social media account and said that she has been doing the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program since August, adding that it taught her how to breathe again and has also helped rebuild her muscle strength as well.

She also said that she’s grateful that she enjoys working out and has established the discipline needed for it before so it helped keep her focused and determined. According to her, it’s easy for her to just decide not to go but she made sure that she never missed a session.

Maiqui then said what really keeps her going are the pulmonary therapists who take care of her and it never feels like a burden or work when she’s with them.

It can be recalled that Maiqui disclosed last August that she had been diagnosed with Dermatomyositis – a rare autoimmune disease that causes muscle weakness, inflammation, and a skin rash.
