DITO Telecommunity CEO Dennis Uy has resigned

DENNIS UY – The Davao-based tycoon has resigned as the chief executive officer (CEO) of DITO Telecommunity.

Dito Telecommunity, previously known as Mislatel, is a major telecommunications and technology company in the Philippines. It is a partnership between Dennis Uy’s Udenna Corporation (through Dito CME Holdings Corporation) and China Telecommunications Corporation, a state-owned entity of China Telecom. The consortium won a government-sanctioned bid, breaking the duopoly of PLDT and Globe Telecom and becoming the country’s third major telecom provider.

Dito Telecommunity commenced commercial operations in March 2021, with a subscriber base reaching 13.1 million by February 2023. The company’s history traces back to its establishment in 1998 under the name Mindanao Islamic Telephone Company (Mislatel). In 2018, it entered a consortium with Udenna Corporation and China Telecom to compete as the provisional third major player in the telecom industry. The company was later renamed Dito Telecommunity in 2019.

Dito’s network expansion is marked by the construction of its own campus, interconnection deals with other telecom companies, and the launch of 4G LTE and 5G services. It began commercial operations first in Visayas and Mindanao before expanding to Luzon and eventually Metro Manila. The company aims to offer high-speed broadband internet services, primarily focusing on Mindanao and the Visayas.

Davao tycoon Dennis Uy has resigned as the chief executive officer (CEO) of DITO Telecommunity. He will be replaced by Eric Alberto, the president of DITO CME, the information and communications technology sector of Uy’s Udenna Group. However, Uy will remain as the chairman of DITO Telecommunity.

Meanwhile, DITO CME’s chief operating officer, Donald Lim, will serve as the acting president of the company. Uy stated, “Eric’s wealth of experience in senior capacities in the banking and telecoms sectors spanning several decades, will be very valuable in his new role as DITO Tel CEO. His appointment comes at an opportune time as we continue to maintain the company on a high-growth trajectory.”
