Vice Ganda and Ion Perez Face Charges Filed by KSMBP

KSMBP files charges against Vice Ganda and Ion Perez

VICE GANDA and ION PEREZ – The real-life couple and hosts of It’s Showtime are facing charges filed by the Kapisanan ng Social Media Broadcasters ng Pilipinas (KSMBP).

The group filed several charges against the two before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office on September 11, 2023. According to Atty. Mark Tolentino, their legal counsel, the group will hold a press conference to explain why they decided to file charges against the It’s Showtime hosts. The press conference is scheduled for September 13.

Last month, the group held a meeting with Chairperson Lala Sotto of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) to address the growing concern about ‘immoral’ content featured on certain television programs.

It remains unclear whether the complaints they submitted were related to the alleged indecent actions carried out by Vice and Ion. To recall, the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) has issued a 12-day suspension order against “It’s Showtime.” This suspension stems from the cake-icing incident that occurred during the “Isip Bata” segment on July 25, where violations were committed by the comedian and his partner on the program.

ABS-CBN asserted that their noontime show did not violate any laws, and they intend to appeal to the MTRCB for reconsideration of its resolution. If their motion for reconsideration is denied, they can further appeal to the Office of the President.

At present, Vice and Ion have not issued any statements regarding the charges brought against them. Meanwhile, a Christian group supports the decision of MTRCB to suspend It’s Showtime for 12 days. The Christian Coalition Movement believes Vice and Ion’s actions violated the “rules of decent, moral, and good public program.”
