Modern jeepney conductor who body-shamed a student in Bacolod has spoken up
BODY SHAMING – The modern jeepney conductor who body-shamed a student passenger in Bacolod City has finally broken his silence on the issue.
Earlier, a student from Bacolod City named Lanimae Joy Libo-on Mag-aro took to social media to narrate her experience of being publicly body-shamed by a conductor of a modern jeepney from RSJ Lines, Inc.
According to the student, as soon as she boarded the jeepney, the conductor commented on her size and insisted that she should pay for two seats. She ignored him and went to sit at the back, but he persisted, saying that she should pay for two seats.
To make a long story short, she got off the modern jeepney and burst into tears by the roadside, feeling deeply ashamed of herself. She felt humiliated, especially since many passengers witnessed what happened.
Lanimae never expected such an incident to happen to her. She hopes that conductors and drivers will be more careful with their words and actions, ensuring that passengers are treated respectfully, without any form of humiliation or body-shaming. She believes that such behavior should stop and that the conductor who treated her this way should be held accountable.
RSJ Lines, Inc. has issued a statement regarding the body-shaming incident, apologizing and assuring that the said employee would be subjected to disciplinary action.
Meanwhile, the 32-year-old conductor has spoken up about the incident. He’s asking for forgiveness and has stated that he intended it as a joke toward the student but did not expect his words to be taken seriously. He also clarified that he had no intention of issuing a double-fare ticket to the student.
