The controversy unfolded when Bureau of Immigration (BI) spokesperson Dana Sandoval confirmed on August 8, 2023, that Jeffrey Oh, an American businessman, had been arrested and was now facing deportation. Rumors circulated that James’s father, Malcolm, had a hand in reporting Jeffrey’s alleged illegal activities to the authorities.

But James Reid clarified that his father had no involvement in the incident. In fact, his family, particularly his father, were equally surprised by the rumors that had emerged. He firmly asserted that his father had absolutely nothing to do with the situation, and the misunderstandings had genuinely upset him.
