When it comes to getting married, nowadays, there are people who are into church wedding while there are those who plan to have a civil wedding. The latter is done at a local courtroom or at the municipality or city hall. It is administered by a municipality or city mayor or a judge.

Whether you are getting married in a church wedding or a civil wedding, there are documents that you must prepare and submit. In these article, we will list the civil wedding requirements that you must prepare to get married.

There are several documents needed to get married. Thus, in preparing for a wedding, it is best to start gathering these documents months ahead before your target wedding date.

PSA Birth Certificate

Nowadays, a lot of government processes require a copy of the Certificate of Live Birth issued by the Philippine Statistics Authority, more popularly called PSA. It is also required in getting married through a civil wedding at a local courthouse or city hall.

In getting a PSA copy of your Birth Certificate, you need to schedule an appointment through the government agency’s online platform. You can personally process and get it from a PSA branch on your appointment date or have it delivered at your house or workplace.

Valid IDs

Both the groom and bride-to-be must submit at least one (1) valid ID each as a proof of identity in authenticating the other documents submitted.

Certificate of No Marriage (CENOMAR)

The groom and bride to be must get a Certificate of No Marriage from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA). More popularly called CENOMAR, it certifies that both parties have no record of marriage thus it is part of the civil wedding requirements.

Marriage License Application Form

Get four (4) copies of the Marriage License Application Form at the Local Civil Registrar in your city or municipality. One (1) of the copies is yours while the other three (3) copies will be submitted to the registrant, the solemnizing office, and the Office of the Civil Registrar-General.

Community Tax Certificate (CEDULA)

The Community Tax Certificate or CEDULA is issued by the local Philippine Treasurer’s Office. There are Cedula requirements for application that you need to prepare in getting the document.

Other Requirements:
  • 1×1 Photo
  • Barangay Certificate
  • Certificate of Attendance in Pre-Marriage Counseling (if either or both the couple are 25 years old or below)
