Netizens call out Dianne Medina due to “Taranta”

DIANNE MEDINA – The PTV host has been called out by some netizens because of the word “taranta.”

It can be recalled that it was in February when the television presenter was heavily criticized due to her “mistake” while covering a topic related to the K-pop group TWICE’s subunit on Rise and Shine Pilipinas. Apparently, she mispronounced the word “subunit” as “suboonit.” This didn’t sit well with fans of the K-pop group, and she faced backlash for not thoroughly reading or researching the report before it aired.

When Dianne Medina addressed her “mistake,” she admitted to being unfamiliar with K-Pop and mistakenly assumed it was a Japanese term. She also acknowledged her responsibility as a host and the importance of not solely relying on the teleprompter.

Nevertheless, it seems she repeated the same mistake once again. In a recent episode of her segment on PTV’s show, she introduced the K-Pop group iKON as behind the song “Taranta” instead of “Tantara.” This led to further negative feedback.

Netizens advised her to properly read the report, and some even recalled her previous blunder and noted that she repeated it recently. This incident was shared on a popular entertainment website, and netizens were not pleased with her actions.

One netizen highlighted that she hadn’t learned from her previous mistake, making the same error twice. Another pointed out that she’s simply a news reader, not a journalist. Amidst the criticism aimed at Dianne, another netizen defended her by stating that she is a capable host and whether she has a degree in mass communications doesn’t really matter.

As of press time, Dianne Medina has yet to react on criticisms she has been receiving.
