MODERN BARONG TAGALOG – The outfit worn and designed by Vinz Charles B. Lumanas, a 17-year-old Grade 12 student from Ateneo De Davao University, gained admiration on social media due to its unique design.

In his Facebook post, Vinz confidently showed up his outfit, stating that it was for their school’s special event in celebration of Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa 2023. “Mabuheyyy!🇵🇭” he wrote in his Facebook post.

“Edit: Mabuhey yall! I am really flattered by everyone’s love and support, and I want to thank you all for recognizing my creativity in putting this outfit together,” he noted. “For everyone who is asking where I got my outfit, I just bought a barong and had it cropped, and my corset and boots are from Shopee.”

In an exclusive interview with Balita, Vinz shared that he decided to put together the outfit during the “last minute.” He also revealed the cost of his ensemble.

Vinz spent around ₱850 for the barong, ₱45 for the fan, and ₱100 for the seamstress, so it totaled ₱995. The other pieces are already in his closet. “Actually the day before the Buwan ng Wika po namin ‘yan napagawa so it’s super last minute po talaga,” he added.

“Actually, we had it made the day before our Buwan ng Wika celebration, so it was really super last minute,” he added. As of press time, Vinz’s post has garnered 12k heart reactions, 5.9k shares, and 670 comments.

Meanwhile, “Buwan ng Wika” is a month-long celebration that takes place every August. It is a commemoration of the Filipino language and culture. During this month, various activities are organized to promote and celebrate the use of the Filipino language (Tagalog) in various forms, including literature, arts, and media.
