JHON LOYD DINGLASAN – An incoming freshman has been accepted to ten (10) international universities in Spain and the United States.
Picture this: it’s school season, and many new students are feeling down. Some of them haven’t managed to enroll yet, and it’s weighing on them. It’s even tougher when money is tight, which is the case for Jhon and his family.
At just 18, Jhon is the oldest among his siblings. He’s been a hardworking student since his kindergarten days, earning awards for being consistently excellent. He’s got a real drive to do well, whether it’s in class, competing with others, or expressing his creativity through art. He’s also someone who’s always up for a challenge, and he’s been involved in after-school activities since he was a little kid.
Why did he apply to so many universities, you ask? Well, Jhon wants to have options. It’s like having backup plans in case one doesn’t work out. If a university rejects him because of his recent grades, he’s got others to fall back on. His advice to other students is pretty straightforward: Apply to a bunch of colleges, but when you get a spot, commit to just one.
Life in his town is pretty simple, but college costs are a big hurdle. Jhon’s dad is without a job, and his parents are getting older. So, it’s up to his mom to handle the bills, and that’s not easy. Plus, his sister’s about to start senior high school.
Jhon’s got a big goal—to lift his family out of poverty. His dad’s words ring in his ears: “Kahit anong school basta makapagtapos ka ng pag aaral, dahil sa sobrang hirap ng buhay.” Even though he’s close to his goal, the current situation feels like a roadblock.
It’s not all smooth sailing, though. Rejections and disappointments have been part of his journey. Those moments were tough, but they also taught him a valuable lesson: sometimes, when one door closes, another one opens. Everything that’s happened, even the tough stuff, has a purpose.
