Martin Diño, the former Undersecretary of DILG, has passed away

MARTIN DIÑO – The former Undersecretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) passed away earlier today, August 8, 2023, due to cancer.

His passing was confirmed by his daughter, Liza Diño-Seguerra, the former Chair of the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), through a Facebook post.

“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Martin Diño, Former Undersecretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG). “‘Bobot,’ as he is fondly called, peacefully died at 2:15 am on August 8, 2023, surrounded by his family,” said Liza in her statement.

Liza described her father as a “dedicated public servant, loving husband, father, brother, and friend.” The wife of singer Ice Seguerra also paid tribute to her father’s time as the chairman of the Violence Against Crime and Corruption (VACC).

In the final part of her post, she expressed gratitude to those who are extending their love, support, and prayers during this difficult time. Before releasing a statement on the death of her father, she posted a black-and-white photo on social media while holding her dad’s hand as he lay in the hospital bed.

Meanwhile, Martin Diño served as a DILG Undersecretary under the administration of former President Rodrigo Duterte. He also served as the chairman of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority. In the 2016 elections, Diño filed a last-minute certificate of candidacy for president, but he withdrew, paving the way for Duterte to join the presidential race.
