Sharon Cuneta on Miel Pangilinan: “Now she’s free”
SHARON CUNETA – Megastar Sharon Cuneta and her daughter Miel Pangilinan looked back at the time when Miel “came out” as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community.
Sharon and Miel were recently introduced as ambassadors or “Dreamweavers” of life insurance company Insular Life (InLife).
It was last year when Miel “came out” as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community. But in a recent interview with Inquirer Entertainment, she admitted that she “got a lot of hate” as a result of her announcement.
Miel also said she already expected the reaction of the public and “wasn’t shocked by it”. She added that she felt like “coming out” was her “best move” because she hates the feeling of acting like she’s not who she is in front of other people.
“I’m doing really good. I’m out and I’m proud,” Miel Pangilinan said even though she still gets hate messages sometimes. The Megastar added, “Now she’s free.”
Sharon then told her daughter that those who matter are the ones who are supportive of her and nothing else should be more important.
Meanwhile, Sharon talked about her unique relationship with her social media followers. She, who has 457,000 subscribers on YouTube and 1.5 million followers on Instagram, shared that she sees social media as a means to be in touch with her followers and audience.
The Megastar also said that she has managed to embrace social media, saying that she grew up in a generation that respected one another. She added that it’s easy for trolls to hide behind anonymity nowadays.
She also said she was also aware that a lot of companies and brands are now hiring social media influencers as brand endorsers. “That’s OK. Their reach is different,” she said.
Sharon added that she would like to think she has a long-standing history with her social media followers. According to her, those who started being her fans when they’re young have already grown up. She also said that she has new fans – teenagers who call themselves “Gen S” or the “Sharon Generation”.
The Megastar is one of the stars in an upcoming movie titled “A Mother and Son’s Story”.
